Peace Education Program

This is a part of the Peace-building and Interfaith and Harmony programme. MARS is running this programme in different schools in the District of Sheikhupura. Goal of the Project  Promotion of non-violent education and bridging the social religious gaps for the sustainable peace in youth, school children and school staff. Objectives of the Project  Essential to this undertaking is life-long peace education at home, in schools, and in the community, with its focus on the integral role of all members of society children, youth, and adults and with the equal participation of women and men in the administration of human affairs. Formation of Peace committees of school staff (Principals, Teachers and MARS representative) for the promotion of peace culture. 8-15 and 15-25 age group will be educated as peace builder through this student peace education program. To change the attitudes of a generation for life time peace through tolerance, love, forgiveness, acceptance and joint ventures. Expected Results of the Project By the end of the project 60-70% students, youth and school staff members will be changed their discriminatory and disgusting attitudes. All the students will be provided equal opportunities to share their talent for sustainable peace and development beyond the social religious biases. Students from minorities will gain their confidence and will be treated equally and as human beings thus they would walk parallel of the majoritys children. Direct and Indirect Beneficiaries of the Project Direct Beneficiaries Students (1800) average from each school 1800x9=16200 Staff (108 members) average 6 from each school 108x6=648 Youth (180) 20 members from each group 180x6=1080 Indirect Beneficiaries Families and Communities, religious leadership 17928 Impacts of the Project Children would enjoy the moments without and social and religious constrains. The joint ventures would take place in society for the development of the human beings and condemn the wars and all types of attacks. Society would be in peace through bridging the social & religious gaps among children and communities. Society would move towards sustainable development and peace full environment. Exploitative and discriminatory structures will be weakened after the strong social bindings of the communities. Human values will be promoted among children and their parents as well as in the society through respecting others creeds. No negative remarks observed at any point during meetings, sessions, trainings. 2 Good Shepherd High School 12 300 Officers Colony, Sheikhupura Principal and school staff is averagely cooperative. Gradually the situation is getting better. The Principal is more concerned with the basic study of the students. He was not giving a direct access to MARS staff to the class rooms. However, after continuous meetings and dialogues, he has shown a bit interest in giving direct access to MARS staff to the class rooms. MARS hopes that the situation will be much better during the next quarter. 3 Oriental Model High School 12 400 Civil Lines, Sheikhupura In the beginning the Principal was a bit reluctant in giving us access to his school for this programme. The MARS staff was in a continuous contact with him and at many point in times he agreed but again he slipped away from his commitment. However, after a long discussion of the Director and staff of MARS he agreed to have an initial meeting with his school staff only. After one and half month he gave full access to MARS staff to the class room. 4 Smile Growth School System 12 300 Jindiala Road, Sheikhupura Principal and school staff are very cooperative and looking forward to bring about a radical change in the society through behavioral change for peace building. The MARS staff conducted training sessions for their staff. The Principal has given direct access to MARS staff to impart peace education to the students in the class rooms. No negative remarks observed at any point during meetings, sessions, trainings. 5 St. Marys High School 14 600 Stadium Road, Sheikhupura Principal and school staff are very cooperative and looking forward to bring about a radical change in the society through behavioral change for peace building. The MARS staff conducted training sessions for their staff. The Principal has given direct access to MARS staff to impart peace education to the students in the class rooms. No negative remarks observed at any point during meetings, sessions, trainings. 6 Progressive High School 10 300 Khalid Road, Sheikhupura During the very first meeting with the MARS Director and staff he appreciated the initiative for peace building by the MARS Org. and showed keen interest in introducing this programme in his school. He further emphasized that this very much imperative keeping in view the current situation of the country and as well as the world. Principal and school staff are very cooperative and looking forward to bring about a radical change in the society through behavioral change for peace building. The Principal has given direct access to MARS staff to impart peace education to the students in the class rooms. Good Shepherd High School Oriental Model High School Staff Training Training of Staff was completed on the topics Conflict Management, Motivational Skills and HIV/AIDS. Project overview, implementation and goal were discussed with the staff.
